If you know you know. This scene from the movie, Annie Hall, always stuck out for me. It was funny, but more than that it was the person behind the camera in the scene, Diane Keaton, who stole my heart. I loved how she took pause in a crazy situation to document the moment and find interest and beauty in the unusual.
I loved her style and her ability to just be herself. She was a big inspiration for me, especially when I went off to Philadelphia to go to art school. and like Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, feeling out of place in the big apple, I felt like a fish out of water in a big city too. Coming from a small town, I didn't dress like most of the other art students in their punk attire or dead model look and I think I talked funny or at least people always asked me "where are you from? what is that accent?" I never thought I had an accent, but being from Scranton, Pennsylvania we do have some interesting expressions ... much like Annie Hall did...la di da, la di da.
And as she aged and I did too, she continued to be an inspiration for me. I will miss her.
By the way, I'm not a big fan of Woody Allen the person, but I do love his movies.
